New Children's Book Paints Smiles on Reader's Face
Sometimes
people both young and old need to escape the mundane doldrums of everyday.
With colorful streaks of oil paint and ink on clean white pages, Shannon
Grissom invites readers to visit a world of whimsy and light in her new
children's book, Monkey Made of Sockies (now available
through AuthorHouse).
An artist by trade, Grissom revisits
carefree days of imagination and innocence through her colorfully
illustrated book. A child visits Grammy's house and is left with a
number of toys to choose from. However, the child picks the sock
monkey because his smile is comforting and reassuring. With each
turning page, Grissom draws readers deeper into the sock monkey world that
hides inside the magical walls of Grammy's house.
Through eloquent, colorful paintings,
the reader skips through this loving world as they learn why the child
prefers the sock monkey to the other toys. With a bright smile that
lights up any imagination, the sock monkey helps readers reach the sky,
lie in the grass and happily pass the day. The result is a
heartwarming picture book that expands the imagination.
A beautiful book rendered with love
and car, Monkey Made of Sockies is perfect to be shared with
children, adults, and "people who like to smile."
An award-winning artist, Grissom is
the host of the television series, "Give Your Walls Some Soul." A
San Jose, Calif., native, she began oil painting in 1992 and became a
fulltime artist in 1999. She is represented by Leo Licensing, LLC,
in Cookeville, Tenn., as well as Haddad's Fine Arts in Anaheim, Calif.,
and Malovani Design in Paramount, Calif., and currently maintains a studio
in Hollister, Calif. After her mother passed away, she inherited the
sock monkey. Inspired by the toy's joyful smile, she gathered items
and created her first still life as a playful tribute. As she
painted, the story grew, which eventually resulted in Monkey Made of
Sockies, her first book. For more information, visit her web site at
